Set up the WhatsApp channel on an inbox

Attention: Carriers are now blocking all unregistered outbound SMS per industry regulations to combat spam. Registration is mandatory for all providers, not just GoTo Connect. Register now to restore or maintain SMS service. GoTo Connect cannot expedite carrier reviews.

Connect your inbox to WhatsApp to reach more customers, gather rich data for analysis and growth, and optimize performance by enabling conversations to be handled in one central place.

Before you begin:
  • You must be set up as a user with the admin or manager role, depending on your product.
  • You must have an inbox set up and have a Facebook account with at least one business page. Visit Facebook if you need help with your account setup, login, or pages.
Restriction: GoTo's WhatsApp integration supports inbound messaging only. Outbound messages cannot be sent from your WhatsApp phone number and WhatsApp calling is not supported.

    Setup Meta Business Suite and business portfolio

    1. Go to Meta Business Suite and select Get started to set up your account.
    2. Sign in with your existing Facebook/Instagram account or create a new one.
    3. Select your desired business portfolio or create a new business portfolio.
      Note: Meta will disable any fake accounts. You will want to use legitimate information, even for testing purposes.

    Connect your phone number with Facebook Business Suite

    1. If you have an existing WhatsApp business phone number, select Settings > Accounts > WhatsApp Accounts > + Add to add the phone number that is associated with your WhatsApp Business App account.
    2. If you do not have a WhatsApp Business phone number, sign in to GoTo Admin and then route an existing phone number to your personal extension for use with WhatsApp messaging or order a new number for this purpose.
      Important: It's crucial to route the phone number to a personal extension so you can properly validate it in a later step.

    Connect WhatsApp to GoTo

    1. Sign in to GoTo Admin.
      Fastpath: Alternatively, Contact Center Admins can also configure these settings by navigating to Contact Center > Inboxes in the GoTo desktop or web app.
    2. From Inbox > Inboxes, select an existing inbox or create a new inbox.
    3. From Channels > WhatsApp, select Connect.
      Note: If you have previously linked WhatsApp to your inbox, it will say Manage account.
    4. From the pop-up window:
      1. Sign in to Facebook if you are setting this up for the first time.
      2. Once logged in, select Continue as [name] and then select Get started.
      3. Select an existing business portfolio or create a new one if needed and then select Next.
      4. Enter or verify the WhatsApp Business Account Name and WhatsApp Business display name. The display name should match your business name and adhere to WhatsApp Business display name guidelines.
      5. Select the desired Category and then select Next.
      6. Enter your WhatsApp business phone number. If you did not have a WhatsApp business phone number, enter the GoTo phone number you have set up in step #5.
        Note: The phone number you enter cannot be connected to an existing WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business account.
      7. Select the Phone call option to verify your phone number and then select Next.
        CAUTION: The text message verification option will not go through and you may experience issues receiving a verification code via text message.

        Result: You will receive a phone call with your verification code. Enter the code and select Next.

      8. Select Continue to confirm GoTo-Messaging permissions. Your information may take a moment to verify. Do not navigate away from the page.
      9. Once verification is complete, select Finish.

      Result: Once completed, you will automatically be brought back to your inbox settings page in the GoTo app. If this does not happen, refresh the app. It may take a moment for GoTo to connect to WhatsApp. You'll be officially connected once you see your WhatsApp Business account name, phone number, and inbox appear.

    5. Select Save when finished.
What to do next: When an inbound message is sent to your WhatsApp phone number, the message will appear in the inbox for team members to interact with. Messages from WhatsApp must be responded to within 24 hours time period. If the conversation has reached 24 hours with no response, you will need to reply in the WhatsApp app directly.
