WhatsApp template statuses

Determine what the status of your WhatsApp template means.

Before you begin: You must have access to your WhatsApp Business Manager account with Meta/Facebook.
For more information on WhatsApp templates, please refer to the template guidelines on Meta's support site.

  1. To view a template's status, sign in to WhatsApp Business manager.
  2. Select Message templates.
  3. If you have multiple WhatsApp Business Accounts, select the account whose template statuses you want to view from the list of accounts in the drop-down menu in the top-right corner.
  4. Determine the status meaning of your template:
    • Active statuses: These status are approved to use and send templates for outbound WhatsApp messages.
    • Inactive statuses: These statuses are not approved to use and send templates for outbound WhatsApp messages.
    Status Active or Inactive Definition
    Active - Quality pending Active The message template has yet to receive quality feedback or read-rate information from customers. Message templates with this status can be sent to customers.
    Active - High quality Active The template has received little to no negative customer feedback. Message templates with this status can be sent to customers.
    Active - Medium quality Active The template has received negative feedback from multiple customers, or low read-rates, but may soon become paused or disabled. Message templates with this status can be sent to customers.
    Active - Low quality Active The template has received negative feedback from multiple customers, or low read-rates. Message templates with this status can be sent to customers but are in danger of being paused or disabled soon, so we recommend that you address the issues that customers are reporting.
    In-review Inactive Indicates that the template is still under review. Review can take up to 24 hours.
    Rejected Inactive The template has been rejected during Meta's review process or violates one or more of WhatsApp's policies. If your status is rejected, you can edit and resubmit for an appeal.
    Disabled Inactive The template has been disabled due to recurring negative feedback from customers. Message templates with this status cannot be sent to customers.
    Paused Inactive The template has been paused due to recurring negative feedback from customers, or low read-rates. Message templates with this status cannot be sent to customers.
    Appeal requested Inactive Indicates that an appeal has been requested.
    Not supported Inactive This template has media from WhatsApp that GoTo does not support yet.
    Limit reached Temporarily inactive The maximum number of uses for this template has been reached. You must wait specified amount of time before you can use it again.
