What is the difference between a password-protected and end-to-end encrypted meeting?
We offer two ways to secure your meetings; You can password protect your meeting which requires attendees to enter a password to join, or you can create an end-to-end encrypted meeting.
- When you add a password to your meeting, you are restricting participant access to the session, so participants without the password won't be admitted. The main goal of this method is to control who can enter your sessions. Media streams (audio, video, and screensharing) are stored in GoTo's infrastructure as unencrypted files.
- When you enable end-to-end encryption, you are directly protecting the media content (audio, video, and screensharing) from those who don’t have the decryption key or password, including GoTo. The main goal of this method is to protect the session contents from the provider. Anyone who doesn't have the key or password could, in theory, still join the session, but they would not be able to hear or see anything. Media streams (audio, video, and screensharing) are stored in GoTo's infrastructure as encrypted files.
Important: Even if you don't choose one of the above security options, we encrypt media streams in transit as a protection against third-party access to that data as it travels the pubic Internet and other networks.
