Use a paging system

Add a multicast paging system to your account to allow your users to send and receive audio messages to each other through their phones, individually or in bulk, inside your local area network.

GoTo Admin

If you're an admin who signs in at https://admin.goto.com, these steps are for you.
Because each manufacturer sets up multicast paging differently, we recommend using paging with devices from the same manufacturer. WAN is not supported. You will need to create both realms and profiles for the paging system to be functional.
  1. Sign in to GoTo Admin.
  2. From Phone system (phone in a cloud) icon > Paging, select Add paging, and then choose what you want to do:
    • Add a realm: A realm is a group of zones (or group of subscribing devices) inside a single local area network (LAN).
    • Add a profile: A profile defines which zones a device can send and/or receive pages from.
  3. Complete each field of the respective form.
Tip: You can select Create another after save if you are going to be making multiple realms or profiles at once.
  4. Select Save when complete.
  5. Open the newly created Realm, and then select the desired entry to update the settings:
    1. From Overview, edit the details and see where this realm is being used.
    2. From Zones, add or change the zone names and associated IP ports as needed.
Remember: Zones are groups of devices, generally sharing a location or a department. If you were setting up a paging system for a school for example, you could enter "Hallways" or "Cafeteria" for the zone names, whereas if you were setting up a paging system for a hospital, perhaps you'd name your zones "Billing Dept." or "Emergency Room".
    3. From Polycom, edit the multicast address used for priority and emergency groups and the group number for each on the Polycom handset.
Note: Pages to priority groups will interrupt normal pages and active calls. Pages to an emergency group will interrupt normal pages, priority pages, and active calls at a near maximum volume even if do not disturb (DND) is turned on.
  6. Open the newly created Profile, and then select the desired entry to update the settings:
    1. From Overview, edit the details and see where this realm is being used.
    2. From Zones, check the desired boxes next to the zones you want to allow this group to send pages to (transmit) and/or receive pages from (subscribe).
    3. From Polycom, edit the default zone for transmitting pages and determine if you want to interrupt in-progress calls.
Note: On Polycom devices, pages to the emergency zone will always interrupt calls.
What to do next: Once customized, assign the profiles to the desired devices. To make changes in the future, select the desired profile or realm and edit the settings as needed. To delete a profile or realm, hover over the desired entry and then select Trash can icon.

PBX Administration (classic)

If you're an admin who signs in at https://my.jive.com/pbx, these steps are for you. Set up multicast paging to provide an intercom system with unidirectional, one-to-many communication inside your local area network. Because each manufacturer sets up multicast paging differently, we recommend using paging devices from the same manufacturer. WAN is not supported.
Before you begin: You must have an admin or super admin role to perform this task.

1. Create a paging realm

  1. Sign in to PBX Administration (classic).
  2. From the left navigation menu, select Paging Realms and then select Add Realm.
  3. Enter a Name for the paging realm.
  4. Select Checkmark Icon and then choose the newly added paging realm to configure its settings.
  5. From General, you can edit the name, see which profiles are using this realm, and enter a Name for each necessary zone (the IP Address: Port is automatically generated).
  6. Optional: If using Polycom devices, select Polycom to set up the following:
    Setting Description
Multicast Address The IP address and port used for the priority and emergency groups..
Priority Group The group number (in the Polycom handset itself) for the priority group. A page to this group will interrupt normal pages and active calls.
Emergency Group The group number (in the Polycom handset itself) for the emergency group. A page to this group will interrupt normal pages, priority pages, and active calls at a near maximum volume even if do not disturb (DND) is turned on.
Note: For these features to work, both the subscriber and the transmitter must use a Polycom device.
  7. Select Save when finished.

2. Create a paging profile

  1. Sign in to PBX Administration (classic).
  2. Select Paging Profiles in the left navigation menu and then select Add Profile.
  3. Enter a Name for the paging profile.
  4. Select the desired paging Realm.
  5. Select Checkmark Icon and then choose the newly added paging profile to configure its settings.
  6. From General, you can edit the name, see which realms are using this profile, and check Subscribe or Transmit for each necessary zone.

Result: Devices assigned to the paging profile will receive or send pages accordingly.

  7. Optional: If using Polycom devices, check the box to enable Polycom paging with compatible devices. This allows Polycom and Yealink devices to send and receive multicast pages between each other and must be enabled on each paging profile. Then select Polycom, set up the following:
    Setting Description
Default Zone Defines the order zones will appear on the Polycom device.
Off-Hook Paging Controls whether calls can be interrupted by pages. On Polycom devices, pages to the emergency zone will always interrupt calls.
Note: For these features to work, both the subscriber and the transmitter must use a Polycom device.
  8. Select Save when finished.

3. Assign a paging profile to a phone

  1. Sign in to PBX Administration (classic).
  2. Select Devices in the left navigation menu and then select the device that needs a paging profile.
  3. From Settings > General Settings, choose a Paging profile.
  4. Select Save.
  5. Power cycle the device(s) to apply the changes.
