Run as a service
Adjust your GoToAssist Remote Support v4 settings to run the app as a service.
By default, the GoToAssist Customer desktop application automatically runs as a service rather than an application. This allows you to run beyond the basic application level for improved support without violating or circumventing the security model on your customer's computer. Running as a service allows you to send the "Ctrl-Alt-Delete" command, reboot and reconnect to the support session, and avoid limitations imposed by the User Account Control (UAC), all of which cannot be done when running as an application.
Note: This feature is not available for Mac customers (i.e., customers who join support sessions from a Mac).
Upgrade from running as an application to running as a service
If your customer has not stored a password with GoToAssist Remote Support v4 or has limited login credentials, then the GoToAssist Customer desktop application runs as an application rather than as a service. If you or the customer has administrator-level credentials during the support session, you can do the following:
- Select Tools > Upgrade to Run as a Service in the agent Viewer toolbar.
- If User Account Control (UAC) is enabled, you will be prompted to click Yes to continue. If UAC is not enabled, continue to the next step.
- Enter the Windows user account credentials with administrative privileges, then click OK to upgrade your session to run as a service.
