Use live captions

Enable live captions (closed captions) during your session to improve your experience.

GoTo App

Note: This is a beta feature and currently undergoing changes until its official release.
  1. While in a session, select Caption to enable (or disable) the closed captioning feature.
Note: We currently support English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, French, German, Russian, Japanese, and Chinese.
  2. Select the Arrow icon next to Caption to change the font size and color. You will see a preview of your choices.
  3. To close the additional window after selections are made, select the Arrow icon again.

Google Slides

This option provides captioning for the audio of the presenter only.
  1. Open your presentation in Google Slides.
Note: If your presentation is hosted elsewhere, upload it to Google Slides first.
  2. Select View > Present.
  3. Select Captions or the CC icon in the presenter toolbar.

Result: As you speak, the captions appear in real time.

Microsoft PowerPoint

This option provides captioning for the audio of the presenter only. You must be running PowerPoint v16.0.11601.20178 (Windows) or v16.22.127.0 (Mac) to use subtitles.
  1. Open your presentation in Microsoft PowerPoint.
  2. Select Slide Show and then enable Always Use Subtitles.
  3. From the Subtitle Settings drop-down menu, customize the language and location of the subtitles.

Result: Once you're in slide show mode, subtitles automatically appear.

  4. Select Toggle Subtitles in the presenter toolbar to turn it off and on as needed.

YouTube Studio

These steps are for adding captions to pre-loaded videos; however, you can also add automatic captions to live streamed videos (English only) using the streaming settings.
  1. Sign in to your YouTube Studio.
  2. Select Subtitles in the left navigation menu and then select the desired video.
  3. Select Subtitles > More next to the subtitles you want to edit.
  4. Review automatic captions and edit or remove any parts that haven't been properly transcribed.

Google Chrome

This option only captions media played through the Chrome browser.
  1. Open Chrome.
  2. From the top right, select Settings > Accessibility.
  3. Enable Live Caption.
What to do next: When you play a video, select Media control to turn on captions. If your video is set to autoplay, be sure to turn on the video volume for live captions to work.
