Incompatible routers

Important: Any router that cannot disable SIP modifications (e.g., SIP ALG, SIP Helper, or any other SIP modifier) will not be compatible with desk phones.

Note: Home-grade routers from D-Link and Netgear are suitable for 1-4 users with minor setting adjustments. Modem/Router combo devices or DSL/Cable Gateways (typically supplied by your ISP) are suitable for 1-4 users, but are not recommended. Set these devices to Bridge Mode and use a separate router for optimal results.

Recommended routers

Cloud-based VoIP services rely heavily on router dependability as this is the device that handles all connections between your network and GoTo. It is imperative that your organization uses an approved and properly configured router. The recommended routers below can be purchased and pre-configured from us directly. If you need a QoS-enabled router, we recommend Adtran for its reliability and ease of use. However, most enterprise-grade routers will work.

When determining the right fit for you, you will need to consider the total number of devices you have connected to your internet including your phones, computers, printers, wireless access points, smartphones, etc.
  • JMR1300* — Recommended for <3 devices
  • Adtran Netvanta 3140 — Recommended for 3+ devices
  • Adtran Total Access 908e — Recommended for 10+ devices

*This router must be purchased from GoTo Connect.

Contact your sales rep or project manager if you have more than 25 devices on your network. They will get you in touch with our engineering team who can provide a tailored recommendation.

While you do not have to purchase a router from us, we highly recommend it because we can guarantee our ability to support the device and keep it up to date with the correct firmware and feature packs. For routers not purchased through us, our support may be hindered. If you purchase elsewhere, here are a few things to avoid:

  • Modem/Router combo devices
  • Consumer or SOHO (Small Office/Home Office) routers for anything other than a very small handful of phones
