Fail to connect to mediation server in LogMeIn Hamachi

Failure to Connect to the mediation server in LogMeIn Hamachi usually is a result of a network issue.

These include:

  • Local or network firewall blocking the communication.
  • Being behind a proxy/gateway that does not support persistent connections. This is less common, and if this were the case, you would have issues keeping peer to peer tunnels active.
  • The computer's Domain Name Service cannot resolve the website. Peak hours when your ISP has a large amount of traffic and it is related to packet loss/latency. If the connection becomes too lossy to keep a stable connection with the server, it will drop the connection.

In either of the first two cases, LogMeIn Hamachi is unable to connect to bibi.hamachi.cc on TCP port 12975. This is the default connection port for communication to the mediation server. If this fails, LogMeIn Hamachi tries to connect via SSL on the default port of TCP 443. You'll need to either configure your firewall, or, if applicable, input your proxy settings into Hamachi Preferences > Settings.

In the third case, ensure your computer (and router if applicable) are configured to use the DNS settings as outlined by your ISP. If you run tracert charlie.hamachi.cc > c:\trace.txt from the command line and send us this file, we will be able to give you a better idea of what is going on.

LogMeIn Hamachi mediation server denies login

This indicates that your configuration file has been corrupted. Please uninstall Hamachi, removing all user preferences, and then reinstall to acquire a new IP Address and Client ID.

If this does not resolve the issue, you will need to manually purge the old information.

  1. In the LogMeIn Hamachi interface, go to System > Preferences > Settings. Make sure you are under Advanced Settings.
  2. Scroll to Disk Locations and select Service configuration to highlight it.
  3. Select the Open button. If you cannot open directly from here, navigate to that folder through Windows Explorer.
  4. Open the Run box by pressing the Windows key and the R key at the same time.
  5. In the Run box type: Services.msc and press Enter or select OK.
  6. In the services list, find the Hamachi Tunneling Engine and turn it off.
  7. Once that service is off, delete the contents of the Service Configuration folder you opened earlier.
  8. Once deleted, start the Tunneling Engine service back up, and it will recreate new files.
What to do next:

You should now be able to start LogMeIn Hamachi properly.
