Manually opt out a contact from SMS messages
DEADLINE EXTENDED: United States carriers will block all unregistered SMS in 2025 due to an industry-mandated regulation to protect consumers (your customers) from spam texts. Don’t wait - complete SMS registration no later than January 14, 2025 if you wish to send text messages.
Manually opt out contacts and phone numbers who have asked to be removed from your organization's SMS/MMS communication.
Desktop/web app
- Sign in to our GoTo desktop or web app.
- From the left navigation menu, select Messaging or Inbox:
Option Description Messaging - Select the desired message.
- Select the icon.
- Select Opt out.
Inbox - Select the desired message.
- Select the contact's name or phone number at the top of the conversation panel.
- From the drop-down menu, select Mark as opted out.
- Optional: If you want the conversation to be resolved, select Resolve this conversation and add details if needed.
- Select Mark as opted out.
Mobile app
- Sign in to the GoTo mobile app.
- From the bottom navigation, select Inbox or Messages.
- Tap the desired message.
- Tap the contact's name or phone number at the top of the screen to bring up the contact's details.
- Tap next to the phone number in the Details tab.
- Enable Opt out to prevent the phone number from receiving SMS/MMS messages.
- Select Save.
Results: A confirmation will appear that the contact's phone number has been opted out of all SMS/MMS messaging. An "opted out" label will appear next to the contact in your messages and in the contact's information.
