Use remote control

Presenters can give multiple attendees shared control of their keyboard and mouse. This allows others to move the mouse around your screen and use their keyboard for added collaboration. Your mouse always has priority. You can override their mouse movements at any time to temporarily regain control without removing their access.

Give remote control

In order to give remote control, you have to be on the desktop app and actively sharing your screen. To receive remote control access, you have to be on either the desktop app or a supported browser. Note that the presenter's mouse always has priority – they can override attendees' mouse movements to temporarily regain control without removing Remote Control access.
Notice: Seeing something different? This article addresses the new GoTo app experience. View How do I give someone keyboard and mouse control? for the classic experience.

  1. Start or join a webinar.
  2. Select Share.
  3. Choose the desired screen or app and then select Share again.
  4. Give remote control access in one of the following ways:
    • Recommended: Select Control and then choose the attendee(s) you want to give control to.
    • Select the People pane, and then select the attendee's name and Give remote control.
Troubleshooting: If you still can't enable remote control, check your computer's Accessibility settings to ensure you've allowed the GoTo app to control your computer.
  5. Your attendee(s) will need to select Enable from the Control icon in their toolbar.
Note: Type or move your mouse if you need to temporarily regain control of your screen.
  6. To revoke remote control access, select Control to remove it for everyone simultaneously, or select the arrow by Control to deselect the desired attendees from the list.

Allow attendees to request remote control

Before you begin: Your admin must enable this feature before you can use it. Once enabled by the admin, co-organizers and promoted attendees can request for remote control at any time.
Select Settings icon > Attendee permissions > Request remote control. Co-organizers and promoted attendees can also update this setting during the webinar.
  1. Sign in to the GoTo web or desktop app.
  2. Create a new webinar or edit an existing one.
  3. Select More options and scroll to Attendee experience.
  4. Enable Allow remote control requests.

Results: Attendees see a "Remote control is now available" notification during the webinar.

What to do next: When an attendee requests remote control, you'll be notified. Select Give control to grant access. If multiple attendees request remote control, a list of their names will appear in the top menu.

Classic

Note: This feature is only available for staff members (Presenters, panelists and organizers).
  1. To give remote control access, select Give Keyboard and Mouse from the Screen Sharing pane, and then select the desired staff member.
Note: Attendees who joined via the browser app must switch to the desktop app and then be promoted to panelist to have keyboard and mouse control granted to them. Mobile attendees cannot use this feature.

Result: A check mark will appear next to the name of the person with remote control access.

  2. To temporarily take back control, type or move your mouse. Be sure to tell the person with keyboard and mouse control to resume controlling your screen when you're finished.

Result: The other person who was given control can continue to control your keyboard and mouse, but your actions will override their movements.

  3. To remove remote control access, select Give Keyboard and Mouse again from the Screen Sharing pane, and then select the name of the person with control.

Result: The check mark will disappear next to the name of the person the remote control access was removed from.

If you notice that your attendees are unable to use your keyboard and mouse within certain specific apps, it is due to a conflict with the Windows Integrity Mechanism. It likely indicates that the app is running at a higher integrity level than the GoTo Webinar desktop app. For example, if an app on your computer is running as admin (which uses a high integrity level), then other attendees will be unable to use your keyboard and mouse within it because the GoTo Webinar desktop app runs at a medium security level. If you know that you want your attendees to be able to access an app that runs at a higher integrity level, you must launch GoTo Webinar as an admin when you start your session (by right-clicking the app and selecting Run as admin).
