How do I include media sound during a meeting? (Classic)

While sharing a video or audio clip during a meeting, presenters can include the media sound coming from their computer with attendees. Please note background noise (e.g., notifications) will also be shared.

You must be connected to audio via Computer audio to use this feature.
Attention: We have a new GoTo app! This article covers the classic GoTo Meeting experience. View How do I include media sound during a session? for the new GoTo.

System requirements

Presenters must be on the Windows or Mac desktop app v10.14.0, build 18962 or newer to include their media sound. Attendees joining from all platforms (desktop app, Web App, mobile) can listen to the shared audio.

Desktop app

  1. Select the Share icon to begin sharing.
  2. In the "Share my screen" window, check the "Include media sound" box and select Share. Alternatively, you can use the Options drop-down in the Presenter toolbar and click Include media sound.
Note: If you are on a Windows computer, make sure the speaker output matches the device selected in GoTo Meeting (e.g., both audio must be playing from your headset). Changing the speaker device in GoTo Meeting will stop audio sharing - as soon as the shared content and GoTo Meeting are both playing from the same speaker output, audio sharing will work.
Important: If you are on a Mac, you will be prompted to install the GoTo Audio Device audio driver the first time you share your audio while screen sharing. If media sound is not being included, make sure GoTo Audio Device is set as the output in the Volume drop-down of the menu bar. To uninstall the GoTo Audio Device, see How do I uninstall GoTo Meeting?.

  3. To stop sharing your audio, select Options in the Presenter toolbar and uncheck Include media sound. Alternatively, you can stop the audio of content being shared (e.g., stop YouTube video).
Tip: If you run into any audio issues, please report them.

Browser or web

If you are not actively speaking, mute your mic for the best audio quality.
  1. Select the Share icon to begin sharing.
  2. Choose the screen(s) or application you want to share.
    • Chrome Tab – Make sure Share tab audio is enabled then select Share. You will be prompted to turn off your mic for the best audio.
Note: When sharing from a Chrome tab, Share tab audio is enabled by default.
    • Entire Screen - Enable Share system audio then select Share (Windows only).
Troubleshooting: Changing the audio device will stop audio sharing. In this case, stop and start screen sharing again or switch back to the original audio device.
  3. To stop sharing your audio, select the Share icon. This will stop screen sharing entirely. Alternatively, you can stop the audio of content being shared (e.g., stop YouTube video).
