How do I search the default dial by name directory?

A dial by name directory is a phone directory populated with extensions from your phone system. This star code allows you to perform a search from your phone for a contact within the default directory. Searching the directory with this star code is only available when dialing from a phone on your system. If you want callers outside of your organization to have the option to search for their destination party, a system admin will need to set this up within a dial plan.

  1. Dial *11 from your phone.
  2. Using your keypad, enter the first three letters of your destination party’s first or last name. The system will then read the matching extensions. If no matches are found, it could be because a system admin has omitted the extension from the directory.
  3. Press 1 to dial the extension or * to perform a new search.

Note: Each letter is represented by a number on your phone’s keypad. You do not need to press a number more than once to spell the second, third, or fourth letters represented by that key.
